Center for Research and Islamic intelligence: Redefining the psychological warfare
Allah says in the Noble Koran:
Koran; 4:75:"And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper."

Allah says in the Noble Koran:
Koran; 2:216: "You have been enjoined to go to war, and you dislike it; it may be that you dislike a thing and the same is good for you, and you love a thing and the same is bad for you: Allah knows but you do not."
Koran; 2.194: "whoever then acts aggressively against you, inflict injury on him according to the injury he has inflicted on you and be careful (of your duty) to Allah and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil)."
Koran; 16:126: "And if you punish, then punish them with the like of that with which you were afflicted."
Allah says in the Noble Koran:
Koran 33.23: "Of the believers are men who are true to the covenant which they made with Allah: so of them is he who accomplished his vow, and of them is he who yet waits, and they have not changed in the least."

Message to the Obama administration
Allah the Almighty says:
Koran; 5:51: "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."
Koran; 8:60: "And prepare against them what force you can and horses tied at the frontier, to terrorize thereby the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them, whom you do not know (but) Allah knows them; and whatever thing you will spend in Allah's way, it will be paid back to you fully and you shall not be dealt with unjustly."
TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
As-Salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh my brothers and sisters in Islam. I am actually a converted Muslim and a blogger who classifies articles that I found on various sites and that I find interesting concerning Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Somalia, the Philippines, the Caucasus, Thailand, Kashmir and other locations. A memory aid that makes my life easier and at the same time I share this to those who have the same interests as me. I am also a freelance journalist (unpaid since the salary comes from Allah), an investigative journalist on child porn networks in cases such as the Zandvoort files, the Koala Case, the Pinon Case, the CORAL case, the case of a juvenile court judge exposed with an 11 year old autistic boy, the CRIES network, the Case 'Spartacus' and the X Witnesses in Belgium, but also a researcher and analyst on modern state terrorism (the secret NATO operation 'Gladio', the danger of vaccines, CHEMTRIALS in the air, the danger of the new bulbs, aspartame, false flag attacks, a specialist in intelligence and strategic communications. The right for free information, freedom of expression, religion and freedom of literary criticism and the diversity of opinions are a fundamental freedom and a basic right for every human being. There's 2 sides to every coin...so bought sides have the right to express their views concerning the wars. Since a couple of years, we have been confronted with amazing victories of Moudjahideen against the NWO armies and their apostates. This does not correspond with the traditional media who claim to inform us.
At least Censored31 is clear on the subject and this for freedom of speech and press.
For the first time the audience discovers the true face of the war. Images and video contradicts all official versions. This is not Islamic propaganda. This is NOT a call for JIHAD. It is to question why these unjust wars are happening. But secret services around the world want to curtail the free speech on this website.I am against racism, I am against violence,I am against violence, ethnic, racial or religious hatred, intolerance, anti-Semitism and terrorism. I repeat, I am not glorifying TERRORISM. This is not a radical Islamist Web site for the purpose of recruitment and incitement.
TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG

A bomb exploded targeting a convoy of American occupation forces in south of the city of Karbala. Government sources confirmed the attack saying it targeted American forces without knowing the casualties because of measures taken by them at the scene.
It is worth to mention that Karbala City has not witnessed such an attack to American occupation forces for a long time.
Youth Mujahideen Movement: Killed 12 apostate militiamen in an ambush in the neighborhood "Daynile" in Mogadishu. (English)
In the name of Allah most gracious most merciful
Killed 12 apostate militiamen in an ambush in the neighborhood "Daynile" in Mogadishu.
Praise is to Allah the Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings on the Prophet Mohammed, and on his family and companions, To Proceed:
The battalion of Al-Usra Army managed in the morning on Tuesday 01/12/2009 to ambush the government militias in the neighborhood "Daynile" in Mogadishu, near "Jali Siad", which has suffered many times from the ferocious attacks by the Mujahedeen and it is one of the headquarters belonging to the crusaders in the land of Islamic/Muslim Somalia.
After the enemy fell in the ambush by the Mujahedeen , the mujahedeen attacked the apostates with their weapons, a fierce battle began between the two groups, one group fighting for the sake of Allah, and other infidel group, fighting for the sake of falsehood. Resulting by the grace of Allah in killing 12 militiamen in the battle field, including four senior criminal commanders and wounding others, the Mujahedeen took their weapons , two Mujahedeen where martyred and six others where lightly injured, and we ask Allah to accept our martyrs in the heavens and to heal the wounded and all Praise be to Allah.
O Allah, Revealer of the book, Disperser of the clouds, Defeater of the parties, defeat the Crusaders, and their apostate allies!
O Allah, make them and their equipment easy booty for Muslims!
O Allah, destroy them and shake them!
O Allah, You are the one who helps us and the one who assists us, with Your power we move and by Your power we fight!
Allah is Great!
But honor belongs to Allah, and thus to His Messenger, and to the Believers; but of this the hypocrites are not aware

GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) and Israeli gunboats fired at Rafah homes and Palestinian fishing boats south of the Gaza Strip on Saturday, local sources reported.
They said that IOF navy boats opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the Rafah coast but no casualties or material damage were suffered.
The sources added that IOF soldiers also opened their machineguns at Palestinian homes east of Rafah city as warplanes and reconnaissance planes continued to hover over the Strip all daylong.
The 1,680 kilometres (1,040 mi) pipeline will run from the Dauletabad gas field to Afghanistan. From there TAPI will be constructed alongside the highway running from Herat to Kandahar, and then via Quetta and Multan in Pakistan. The final destination of the pipeline will be the Indian town of Fazilka, near the border between Pakistan and India.
The pipeline will be 1,420 millimetres (56 in) in diameter with a working pressure of 100 atm. The initial capacity will be 27 billion cubic meter (bcm) of natural gas annually of which 2 bcm will be provided to Afghanistan and 12.5 bcm to both Pakistan and India. Later the capacity will increase to 33 bcm. Six compressor stations are to be constructed along the pipeline. The pipeline is expected to be operational by 2014.
The cost of the pipeline is estimated cost at US$7.6 billion. The project is to be financed by the Asian Development Bank.
Who will build this $6 billion (plus cost over runs) pipeline? I don’t know. Maybe Halliburton will bid. I can be pretty sure that the company that wins the contract is going to be very, very pleased to have U.S. troops in the country to help protect its investment.
Suicide bomber kills four in attack on Iraq police
Thu Dec 3, 2009
A suicide bomber wearing a vest packed with explosives killed four police officers in Saddam Hussein's hometown on Thursday, including the head of the city's anti-riot squad, Iraqi police said.
The attack in a crowded street appeared to target Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Subhi al-Fahal, the commander of the riot police in Tikrit, 150 km (95 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
The three other victims were Fahal's bodyguards, who were accompanying him while he shopped. Seven civilians were wounded.
Violence in Iraq has fallen to its lowest levels since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. Eighty-eight civilians were killed in violence in November, the first time the monthly bodycount fell below 100 in more than 6-1/2 years.
But suspected Sunni Islamists such as al Qaeda continue to stage regular attacks, including devastating suicide bombings against government buildings in Baghdad on October 25 and August 19 in which almost 250 people died.

Sheikh Hassan Yakub the spokesman of Al-Shabab in the Jubbah regions in southern Somalia has told the press that their faction has had talks with some of the officials of Hizbul-Islam in the Somali Kenya boarder town of Dobley on Saturday instantly after their seizure.
“Immediately after our fighters have conquered Dobley town in fireless manner there were some of the officials of Hizbul-Islam who have crossed over the boarder between the countries, despite there were some high ranking officer whom we have met in the town including Sheikh Hassan Turkey who is in fact a well respected figure in venue of the Islamists those who have jumped over the fence between the two countries include the so called Ahmed Madobe who is a person whom were are after, he is in fact the man who has ignited the fire between Al-Shabab and Hizbul-Islam” said Sheikh Hassan Yakub the spokesman of Al-Shabab in the Jubbah regions.
There are no genuine proves which support the words of Sheikh Hassan Yakub, and yet here are no comments from Hizbul-Islam faction which disproves or proves the remarks of Sheikh Hassan Yakub if Ahmed Madobe has crossed over the boarder between Kenya and Somalia.
Al-shabab has been tracking down some Hizbul-Islam officials as from Kismayu town which is some 500km from the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Shock follows footage of settler running over Palestinian, twice
Ma'an News
December 2, 2009
Bethlehem - Ma'an/Agencies - An amateur video shocked Palestinians on Tuesday, catching what appeared to be an Israeli settler running over a wounded Palestinian at a gas station in Hebron last week.
The Palestinian, an unidentified man shot several times following an alleged knife attack at the station, appeared to be staggering when a silver Mercedes ran him down, stopped, reversed, and ran him over a second time.
The video was reportedly taken on Thursday, although at the time, Israeli representatives made no mention of the settler's alleged attack, telling reporters only that a Palestinian man had been shot after he stabbed and lightly injured two settlers.
A military spokesman told Ma'an that after the two Israelis were hurt, a soldier shot and injured the Palestinian, who was taken to the Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem. The settler, on the other hand, was released under house arrest.
That evening, a hospital spokeswoman told Ma'an the Palestinian was undergoing surgery for serious wounds, but did not mention he had been run over and trapped under a car. He was transported by an Israeli ambulance, she noted.

Afghan Resistance Statement Regarding Obama’s New Strategy by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
Statement of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Regarding Obama’s New Strategy
Wednesday, 02 December 2009
The American President Obama has announced his strategy after months of dithering. The essence of the strategy shows that the needs and wants of the American people have been overlooked during the framing of this strategy and it has been formulated under the pressure of (army) generals of Pentagon, the American Neo-conservatives and the wealthiest fews of America and for the protection of their interests. Hence it is a strategy of colonialism aimed at securing interests of the American capitalists and it seems America has vast and protracted but wicked and hostile plans not only for Afghanistan but for the whole region.
There is neither a new point in the Obama’s strategy, nor it contains any solution for the Afghan issue. Obama wants to kill two birds with one stone. He wants to lessen the sensitivities of the Afghans about the surge of 30,000 troops through the ploy of ostensibly starting troops withdrawal in 2011. He also intends to decrease the opposition of the American public ( to the troops surge) and encourage his Allies at world’s level to send more troops. But this stratagem will not pay off. The reinforcement will result into ( their) fatalities. Similarly, the Afghans, the public of the world particularly, the people of America now know the realities and they are not going to be deceived by Obama’s juggling of words.
2. Throughout the history of Afghanistan, the Afghans have not been subjugated through deceits, ploys, materials power, troop’s reinforcement and military might of the foreigners. Therefore, the reinforcement of the American troops and other tactics will not have impact on the status quo. But the reinforcement will provide better opportunity for the Mujahideen to launch offensives. On the other hand, it will deepen the crisis of the American economy which is already in shambles.
3. The Obama’s assertion to increase and train more soldiers and police for the Kabul Administration is pointless and not result-oriented. The Islam-loving and freedom-loving people of Afghanistan consider the Kabul Administration and the forces working under this Administration as corrupt and surrogates of the invaders. Such schemes have already resulted into bringing in losses to the invaders. The Afghans and the public of the world saw that the more they increased the number of troops and sped up training the forces, the more the Mujahideen gained strength and spread their influence into the ranks of the (surrogate) forces. Furthermore, the people’s support with the Mujahideen has increased in parallel.
4. We neither have bases in Pakistan nor we need such bases outside Afghanistan. We have control over vast swathes of land in the country and do not face any problem about our activities and residence.
They raise the issue of our residing in Pakistan in order to distract the attention ( of the world) from our capability and strong resistance in Afghanistan.
5. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has frequently said that we have no intention of harming any one. Therefore, the presence of foreign invading forces in Afghanistan has nothing to do with the security of the world. Obama sometimes calls this war, a war of necessity; sometimes he calls it a war for the defense of the West and some times, a war being waged for the security of the world. These are his efforts to mobilize the opinion of the world in favor of this war and encourage other countries to support it in order to justify the unlawful invasion and use other countries for his benefit.
6. The Mujhideen of the Islamic Emirate have worked out a vast strategy and prepared for strong resistance to foil the illegal, anti-Islamic and anti-Afghanistan conspiracies of the internal and external Allies and counter them in every part of the country with full strength and put up a protracted resistance. The Mujahideen have high morale and complete readiness and believe that Obama’s new strategy will fail like it did previously. It will face fiasco.
We deem it necessary to remind the American rulers if you persist in your aggressive policy, America will end up being disintegrated itself instead of maintaining the occupation in Afghanistan. The history of the arrogant invaders speaks volume for this fact.
We want to point out that the Muslim people of Afghanistan want to lay down their lives and properties willingly but are never ready to give up their faith and freedom. You have already seen the reaction of the Afghans in the shape of national Islamic upheaval in response to your blind bombardment, brutal torture, operations and frequent reinforcement in the past eight years, you must wait a more severe reaction in the years to come.
President and Man-of-Peace Obama has a Xmas Present for Afghanistan by Dave Lindorff
December 2, 2009
Merry Xmas Jarheads!! The Man of Peace, Nobel Laureate-to-be , President Barack Obama, your chickenhawk commander-in-chief, is shipping you out as a holiday gift to the people of Afghanistan.
You will be delivering bullets and bombs, with my name and the name of other American taxpayers on them, to the long-suffering people of Afghanistan by December 25, according to what Mr. Hope and Change’s told the nation in a speech delivered at West Point last night.
Merry Christmas Afghanistan!
Back here in America, the land of the free and brave, come the holidays, we will be scraping together the cash to buy small gifts for our kids, hopefully without having to miss a rent payment or a mortgage payment. Fortunately, we’ve got Food Stamps, which are now, we are told, flooding the suburbs, and are “no longer a stigma,” so we won’t be hurting too much for Christmas dinner—though you still can’t use the stamps to buy eggnog.
It will be interesting to hear what your commanders tell you your mission is. The president is saying we need to keep Al Qaeda out of Afghanistan, which he dishonestly called the “epicenter” of global terrorism, but from what I hear, there are no Al Qaeda operatives in the country. They all upped and left for greener pastures a long time ago—to places like Pakistan, Somalia, and maybe Europe and the USA. Hell, they can go anywhere. How do you spot an Al Qaeda guy anyhow? The fellows getting on the plane in Boston on 9-11 were clean-shaven and wore Brooks Brothers shirts, looking more like bond traders than bombers.
No, you will be targeting the Taliban. But the Taliban are Afghans, and look just like the people who are not Taliban, so what you’ll most likely be doing half the time or more is shooting up ordinary struggling Afghani peasants and shopkeepers, or members of weddings or funerals, whose angry relatives will then seek revenge by setting traps or ambushes for you.
A d v e r t i s e m e n t
From what I hear, we taxpayers will be forking over about $1 million for each of you for each year you are rotated into Afghanistan. You won’t see much of that money yourself of course, (most of the dough will flow to the war-profiteers who make your uniform, your gun, your ammo, your truck, etc.), but maybe it will feel good knowing that there’s that big an investment being made in you.
You’ll be called “our heroes,” too. I’m not sure why. I mean, it takes a certain amount of guts just to sign up for an outfit like the Marines, I know (my dad volunteered to be a Marine in WWII). But I just find it hard to see what’s so heroic about being part of the best-armed, best-trained fighting force in the history of mankind and fighting a group of poor, uneducated peasants armed at best with AK rifles and home-made bombs—especially when you guys reportedly outnumber your enemy by better that 10:1, and have the backing of completely unchallenged air support—F-16s, helicopter gunships, fixed-wing gunships and B-1 bombers.
That’s not a fight. It’s a slaughter.
I had a taste of this when I brought my son and a friend of his to the Army Experience Center, an recruiting experiment in Northeast Philadelphia where we were able to man a mock-up Humvee and race through a simulated village, firing our mounted machine guns at supposed Taliban fighters who would jump out at us, or plant IEDs in our path. At the end of the run, we were congratulated by the attending Iraq War vet/recruiter, for our number of kills and our low (25%) “error” rate—that was the number of civilians, usually women or kids, that we shot up in our haste to shoot first. We were told that such “collateral damage” was to be expected in war.
Merry Christmas Afghanistan!
Barack Obama says you’re just going there to stabilize Afghanistan and keep the Taliban at bay long enough for the people of Afghanistan to come up with a real government and for an army to be trained to take over from you.
We heard a faery-tale like that from another “peace” president, Lyndon Johnson. He gave his speech announcing plans to send two Marine and seven Army divisions to Vietnam at Easter, saying they were just going to be protecting the people and allowing the South Vietnamese government to upgrade its military so it could take over the fight against the other Vietnamese who were trying to overthrow it. A decade later some 2 million of those Vietnamese people were dead, mostly at the hands of our “heroes.”
Happy Easter, Vietnam.
So when you’re over there, try to kill as few of the poor Afghanis as you can. That would be a genuine act of heroism. Or just refuse to go. That would even be more heroic still.
Don’t believe your commander-in-chief when he says you are defending America over there. I’m confident that you’ll see pretty quickly once you get there that the notion that those poor people could be in any way a threat to this nation is beyond ludicrous.
No, what you’ll be defending is Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama’s scheme to look tough on defense, and to be able to kick the can of this ugly, pointless war down the road past the 2012 election without having to run as the “president who lost Afghanistan.” You’ll be defending his goal of winning campaign contributions from the big military contractors like Boeing and Northrup Grumman. You’ll be defending the myriad members of Congress who cast gutless and foolish votes back in 2001 to endorse President George Bush’s and Vice President Dick Cheney’s declaration of a Global War on Terror—a fake “war” that has now been adopted by President Obama.
Good luck over there in the Hindu Kush. I hope you don’t get killed or hurt, but at the same time, I cannot say I wish you success, because success, as defined by your commander-in-chief, appears to mean the slaughter of many innocent Afghanis, and the further entrenchment of a brutal narco-state government in one of the poorest nations in the world.
No, my wish for you is that you and your buddies come home soon, and do as little killing as possible before you do.
Merry Christmas.

Canadian Government Rocked by Accusations of Abuse, Torture of Afghan Prisoners by Roger Annis
December 1, 2009
The Canadian government's war effort in Afghanistan has been shaken by new accusations that Afghans detained by Canadian forces were tortured and abused. The charges were made by Richard Colvin, a highly placed diplomat in the Canadian embassy in Kabul during 2005-07, the years when Canada escalated its military role in Afghanistan.
Colvin testified on November 18 before the Canadian Parliament's Standing Committee on National Defense that he had sent more than 15 reports to his political superiors and the military high command warning that Canadian forces were complicit in the abuse and torture of Afghans it had detained. He said the practice of handing detainees over to Afghan authorities and then turning a blind eye to their treatment not only violated international law, but would also do incalculable damage to Canada's role in the Afghan war and its reputation among the Afghan people.
"Instead of winning hearts and minds, we caused Kandaharis to fear foreigners," he said. "Canada's detainee practices alienated us from the population and strengthened the insurgency." Colvin told the committee that virtually all of the scores of Afghans detained by Canadians from 2005-07 were ending up in torture dungeons. Many were not even connected to fighters resisting the foreign military occupation.
"Many were just local people – farmers, truck drivers, tailors, peasants – random human beings in the wrong place at the wrong time. In other words, we detained and handed over for severe torture a lot of innocent people."
His account echoes concerns expressed at the time by Human Rights Watch, the Independent Afghanistan Human Rights Commission, and others. Even the U.S. State Department in 2006 described continuing evidence of "torture, extrajudicial killings, poor prison conditions, official impunity, prolonged pretrial detention" and other human rights violations at Afghan prisons and detention centers.
Afghan Member of Parliament Malalai Joya confirms Colvin's account. During a speaking tour across Canada to promote her new book, A Woman Among Warlords, Joya told CBC news on November 24, "What he has been saying is what I've heard from my people." She says that many of the victims are women and children, and many of those suffered sexual assault. "It's not new for our people."
Torture allegations against Canadian forces first surfaced in early 2007 in the national daily Globe and Mail and elsewhere. At the time, the Canadian government and military denied the accusations, but local and international human rights organizations confirmed them. Even the International Committee of the Red Cross, always reluctant to enter into political controversy, denied Ottawa's claim that Red Cross officials were watching over the conditions of prisoners and could protect them from abuse.
So the government tried a new tack: in May 2007 it announced a deal with Afghan authorities to prevent future torture and abuse, and promising to monitor prisoner treatment closely. (Of note, Canada's expressed concern about prisoner abuse only applied to detainees turned over by Canadian soldiers).
Colvin's testimony challenges the effectiveness of that deal. He says Canadian military record keeping was notoriously bad and that a regime of "internal censorship" was imposed on the diplomatic and military mission. Following the 2007 revelations, his superiors discouraged written correspondence as well as any public statements on the deteriorating political and military situation in Afghanistan.
Government, Generals Hit Back
The response of the government and military to Colvin's testimony has deepened the crisis. In brief, their strategy has been to deny and attack. Defense Minister Peter MacKay, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and other government representatives flooded Parliament and the press with the message that Colvin's testimony is unreliable and unsubstantiated.
Three of Canada's top generals who were in command in Afghanistan from 2005-07 also challenged Colvin's credibility when they appeared before the Standing Committee on November 25. Former chief of defense staff Rick Hillier called Colvin's accusations "ludicrous."
Hillier led the Canadian military when it expanded its military role in Afghanistan in November 2005, famously declaring that Canada's role would be to "kill detestable murderers and scumbags." In 2006, he described the mission: "We are the Canadian forces, and our job is to be able to kill people."
The general's testimony implicitly acknowledged Colvin's claim that innocent Afghans were being rounded up. He said it was near to impossible for Canadian troops to distinguish Afghans who are "farmers by day and Taliban by night."
Lawsuit Challenges Government
Colvin's testimony might never have taken place if not for a lawsuit initiated by Amnesty International Canada and the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association in February 2007. The suit argued that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms must apply to Canada's prisoner and detainee policy in Afghanistan.
Federal courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada in May, 2009, rejected the suit but the courts did note that Canadian forces in Afghanistan are obliged to obey international law, including the Geneva Conventions on warfare.
The suit succeeded in exposing many documents pertaining to military and diplomatic operations.
The two litigants also initiated a formal complaint to the Military Police Complaints Commission. That process also has pried loose more information, but the government and military have successfully stalled the MPCC's work, including recently firing its head when his term expired.
There are now calls, including from the opposition New Democratic Party, for a public judicial inquiry into Colvin's revelations and other torture allegations. The government has resisted, citing concerns over "national security" and the confidentiality of information. The government has also refused to give the Standing Committee such documentation as e-mail and written reports from Colvin that would corroborate or disprove his testimony and the government's and military's rebuttals.
A Public Inquiry?
The main opposition party in the Parliament, the Liberals, would probably find a public inquiry very uncomfortable and even damaging. After all, it was a Liberal Party government that led Canada into an escalation of the war in Afghanistan in November 2005, and its support for the war has not wavered since it was voted out of office in January 2006. The Liberals' leader, Michael Ignatieff, not only supports the war in Afghanistan, but has also supported the U.S. invasion of Iraq and defended the use of torture against enemies of the U.S. empire.
In 2003 Ignatieff, then teaching at Harvard University, published Empire Lite: Nation-Building in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, in which he argued that the United States was a "humanitarian empire" dedicated to human rights and democracy. The book provided intellectual justification for the Bush administration's use of torture and targeted assassination.
Canada's military and political leaders are also concerned. A public inquiry could expose them to charges of war crimes. Retired Lieutenant-General Michel Gauthier, who headed oversees deployment for the Canadian military in 2006 and 2007, voiced this concern when he told the Standing Committee on November 25:
"As we were sitting at home watching television, my wife and I were mortified to hear a member of this committee appear on a national news network, name me and three others by name, and state as fact that we had either been negligent or that we had lied – effectively branding us war criminals."
Two war crimes experts – Payan Akhavan, a professor of international law at McGill University and former prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal at the World Court in The Hague, and Errol Mendes, a professor of constitutional and international law at the University of Ottawa – told CBC Radio's The Current on November 24 that Canada's political and military leaders have good reason to be concerned.
There is a precedent for a public inquiry into the Afghanistan war, and it does not bode well for its success or utility. In 1993, the elite paratroop regiment of the Canadian military was accused of human rights atrocities in Somalia, including torture and summary execution of ordinary citizens. The regiment was ultimately disbanded. A public inquiry into its conduct, established in 1994, was summarily cancelled by Liberal Party Prime Minister Jean Chrétien in 1997.
One of the commissioners of that inquiry was Peter Desbarats, a former Dean of the School of Journalism at the University of Western Ontario. He wrote a book on his experience, Somalia Cover-up: A Commissioner's Journal. Commenting on the Colvin revelations and fallout on The Current on November 20, Desbarats said, "We haven't learned anything from Somalia … this is another Somalia-style cover-up."
Desbarats says he doesn't have a lot of confidence that a public inquiry will end up any differently than the one that he was part of, and pointed to the only appropriate solution to this political scandal: "We should get out of Afghanistan as soon as possible before it does some real damage to us."
That's also the view of Graeme Smith, a correspondent with the Globe and Mail and Canada's most experienced journalist in Afghanistan. Writing on the news website The Mark on November 12, he said:
"Making the country better doesn't necessarily require fighting the insurgents – in many cases, it requires working with them.
"Our soldiers have bravely followed orders in Kandahar. But they're being swept aside by a tidal wave of U.S. forces, and this surge is likely doomed to bring the same results as previous surges. Canada should withdraw its battle group, and push its allies toward peace talks."
Richard Colvin's testimony adds a layer of complication onto an Afghanistan situation that is already difficult for the Canadian government. Its U.S. ally is poised for a significant escalation of the war, including as many as 40,000 additional troops, and an expansion of the war into Pakistan.
The Harper government, meanwhile, is saddled with a 2008 parliamentary resolution, adopted for domestic political purposes, that calls for an end to Canada's military role in Kandahar by 2011, though it implicitly leaves open the possibility of military deployment to elsewhere in the country. The resolution also commits Canada to "a policy of greater transparency with respect to its policy on the taking of and transferring of detainees including a commitment to report on the results of reviews or inspections of Afghan prisons undertaken by Canadian officials." (For background, see Escalation of Afghanistan War: Canada Faces a Fateful Decision, November 18, 2009.)
The latest torture revelations will make it all the more difficult for the Conservative Party government, or a Liberal Party government that might replace it, to sell the Canadian public on any delay or reversal of the 2011 withdrawal commitment.
While a public inquiry into the latest revelations may expose more scandal, it is no substitute for building a sustained anti-war movement that fights for an end to the interlocked wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine. Only such a movement can end these reckless and predatory wars and help create the political conditions needed to end the regimes of permanent war that now rule in all the major capitalist countries of the world. •

Caucasian Mujahideen reported successful sabotage operation against the 'Nevsky Express'
Publication time: Today at 07:52 Djokhar time
Kavkaz Center received a letter on behalf of the command of the Caucasian Mujahideen, which states that the operation on destroying the "Nevsky Express" was carried out within the ongoing operations of strikes on strategic targets in Russia.
Note that according to Russian authorities behind the organization of undermining "Nevsky Express" is Russian Mujahid Pavel Kosolopov, who by Moscow's version, was behind all the loud sabotage operations in Russia in recent years.
Also note that in 2007, "Nevsky Express" was already undermined once. The responsibility for the sabotage then was taken by the brigade of martyrs "Riyad-us-Saliheen".
According to the Russian authorities there are about 30 people injured, and two residents of Ingushetia, which are declared "terrorists", have been arrested. Just a couple of days before the destruction of "Nevsky Express" Russia's authorities have stated that one of Ingush prisoners allegedly "confessed".
Kavkaz Center publishes the statement sent by the command of the Caucasian Mujahideen, which was received late Tuesday, 1 December, without any cuts or corrections.
***
On November 27 special operation group derailed the "Nevsky Express" train, which was heading from St. Petersburg to Moscow, and which is mainly used by Rusnya's (AKA Russia) leading officials. As a result of erosion several carriages were destroyed or damaged, over 30 people killed and at least 80 people injured.
Initially, authorities of Rusnya stated that the reason for which the train derailed, was another "accident", but after the crater from the blast became public, the leadership of Rusnya was forced to acknowledge the fact that it was operation.
The final dispel of false doubts was the second explosion, which occurred after the undermining of the main bomb, which almost blew up the head of the Investigation Committee under the Prosecutor's Office Bastrykin.
Despite all these facts, the infidels still prefer to write about "a possible accident", while being forced to recognizing that the main version is a diversion operation.
We declare that this operation was prepared and carried out within the planned, early this year, and successfully carried out acts of sabotage on a number of strategically important objects of Rusnya, pursuant to the order of the Emir of Caucasus Emirate Dokka Umarov.
As previously repeatedly warned, in the spring Majlisul Shura by the command of the Caucasus Emirate, it was decided to transfer the sabotage war to the territories of Rusnya, along with strong blows to the occupiers infrastructure in the Caucasus.
Today, we carry out sabotage operations on electricity transmission lines, oil-and gas-wires. Many of the operations are under preparation status.
We declare that we will do everything possible to spread Jihad even greater in the territory of Rusnya to undermine its economy, so that Rusnya will not have the opportunity to use the Caucasus as its raw material base.
We have long been accustomed to the fact that as a result of such operations, Mujahideen are "accused" in a war against "civilians" of Rusnya, but we intend to conduct such diversions in future, which are the just acts of vengeance.
These diversions will continue for as long as the occupants in the Caucasus will not stop its policy of killing ordinary Muslims purely on religious grounds.
We also consider the population of Rusnya as accomplices of Russia's government, which supports by its approval the bloody policy of occupation of the Caucasus and the brutal killings of peaceful Muslims whose only fault is their desire to keep at least basic norms of Islam.
But even despite this, by the order of our Emir Dokka Abu Usman, we will try to avoid casualties among the unarmed population of Rusnya, and will not consider them as a primary objective for operations.
In this year by the command of the Mujahideen, several intelligence-sabotage units were trained and sent deep into Rusnya to conduct operations on enemy's territory. As the result, and the consequences of these operations have caused enormous economic damage to Rusna, we will continue to work in this direction.
We warn the leadership of Rusnya that unless they stop the killing of innocent Muslims of the Caucasus Emirate, and unless they terminate the activities of the "death squads", we reserve the right to conduct appropriate military operations against the "civilian" population of Rusnya.
And sufficient is for us what Allah Almighty said in the Quran: "And fight against them as they fight against you."

Srinagar, December 01 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops, in their unabated acts of state terrorism, martyred 28 innocent Kashmiris including a woman during the last month of November.
According to the data compiled by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, the troops critically injured 80 persons, by resorting to cane charging and teargas shelling against peaceful protestors.
49 people, mostly youth, were arrested and 8 residential houses damaged. The killings by the troops rendered one woman widowed and 11 children orphaned while Indian troops disgraced a woman during the period.
Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani addressing a public meeting in Srinagar said that the Kashmiris’ struggle was aimed at securing the right to self-determination, which could be exercised through a plebiscite.
In London, the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, in a statement emphasised that the International Human Rights organizations particularly the International Red Cross should impress upon India to give them access to different Jails and torture centres to inquire about the plight of Kashmiri political prisoners. »

The representatives of special services of Russia informed "Interfax" news agency that a combined charge, which included plastic explosives, was used in the explosive device which went off under the train.
The bomb was equipped with a mechanical decelerator of explosion on the basis of a regular detonator of manual hand grenade UZRGM. Time of operation of a detonator of this type is from 3,2 to 4,2 seconds. Because of high speed of movement of train, the explosion occurred after passage of the locomotive of a laying point of an explosive.
Russian experts assert that the composition of explosive consisted of plastic explosives, TNT and ammonium nitrate. The device went off, most likely, with the help of cord, stretched over the rails, - the locomotive, hooking the cord, pulled out with its help the ring from the detonator, and then an explosion occurred.
The second explosive device, planted near the scene of the first explosion, did not work at full capacity because of the "umbrella" - the generator of a radio noise turned on by special services in the area of sabotage.
As previously reported, the explosion occurred when the scene was inspected by the ringleader of "Investigation Committee" Alexander Bastrykin. According to one of the versions, the bomb was dampened, so the explosion was not as powerful as the first one and Bastrykin survived.
The first explosion occurred on November 27 at 21:48 at the 284-th km of the Octyabrskaya railway on a stage of Aleshkino-Uglovka. The power of explosion, according to the FSB, was equivalent to 7 kg of TNT, forming a crater diameter of 1 meter to 1.5 meters and depth of 70 cm, two cars were overturned as a result.
Note that senior officials of Putin are among those killed in the sabotage of the "Nevsky Express".
Among the most important is the chairman of the state company "Russian Automobile Roads" and former vice-governor of St. Petersburg Sergey Tarasov, and the Head of State Reserves Agency Boris Evstratikov.
The train "Nevsky Express" is considered to be an elite one which was used by the Russia's important bureaucrats, businessmen and wealthy Muscovites including residents of St. Petersburg.
WAR CRIMES: Killings and abductions continue in Chechnya
According to local sources in Chechnya, gang members of Kadyrov grabbed two civilians on November 21-22.
A resident of mountainous Shatoi district of Chechnya was accused with assisting of food to a mobile group of Chechen Mujahideen in nearby Urus Martan district, since September 2009. Apostates grabbed him and claimed that the hostage confessed that he was planning to join Chechen Mujahideen.
The second hostage is 48 year old, a resident of Jokhar (former Grozny). The Kadyrovites accused that he was a member of Arbi Barayev's unit and left from his group shortly before the end of first Russian-Chechen war.
On the other hand, Russian occupiers introduced the "counter-terrorism operation regime" (CTO) in Achkoi-Martan district of Chechnya since midnight of 23-24 November. Let's remember that Urus-Martan district was imposed to the counter-terrorism operation in the beginning of this November.
According the sources of Ichkeria.info in Nozhai-Yurt district of Chechnya, Turko and Surkho Musayev brothers were kidnapped by gang members of Adam Delimkhanov's apostates during a "mop-up" operation.
The attack was done around 4 a.m in the morning of November 7 at Benoy settlement of Chechnya. According to Musayev family, gang members of Adam Delimkhanov, puppet Kadyrov's closest associate, his personal executioner and cousin, de facto commander of Kadyrov's armed power, and suspect of Yamadayev assassination in Dubai, arrived to village with a few car. They have broken the door of Musayevs' house and entered inside. Then, mobsters of puppet regime forced members of Musayev family out to the yard. Children, women and old men were beaten by gang members of Adam Delimkhanov. The villagers heard the voices -crying children and cries of battered family members- and came there. Eyewitness villagers and Musayev family said gang members of puppet regime grabbed Turko Musayev (born in 1980) and Surkho Musayev (born in 1982) and left from the village. They believe that both of brothers are keeping at Adam Delimkhanov's base in Dzhalka.
The gang members of pro-Kremlin dictatorship in Chechnya didn't explain anything during their terror operation, but reliable sources claims the reason of abduction is Musayev brothers suspected of sympathizing to Chechen Mujahideen.
In the village, Musayev brothers are known as builders. Both of them were working at a project for repairing school number 1 in the village. They have never participated to Chechen Mujahideen and never get in touch.
On the other hand, according to datas of Ichkeria.info, Surkho Musayev has been abducted by gang members of FSB in Nozhai-Yurt district on 23 July 2008. They tortured Surkho first at a secret prison of Kadyrov in Khosi-Yurt, later in the base of FSB at Nozhai-Yurt. He stayed there over than two months. As a result of daily torture and persecution, Surkho was treated for a long time after he was released. But family didn't explain how much bribe they paid for buying freedom of Surkho.
Killed Chechen young was wrestling champion of Azerbaijan
Arthur Dugzaev, 20, who, as Kadyrov's apostates kept asserting, returned from Azerbaijan with the aim to join the Mujahideen, and was liquidated on November 5 while rendering armed resistance, was a freestyle wrestler and had recently won the title of champion of Azerbaijan. His relatives assert that he had been kidnapped by unidentified persons three days before his.
One of Dugzaev's relatives, who preferred to stay anonymous, told to the "Kavkaz-Uzel" correspondent that Arthur became another victim of extrajudicial executions committed by bloody Kadyrov regime in Chechnya.
"Together with his family Arthur left Chechnya back in 1999, after the start of active warfare. He was a bit more than ten. In all these years he only once visited Chechnya. He lived in Baku, went in for freestyle wrestling and was a promising athlete. Recently he became a champion of Azerbaijan," said the source. According to his story, Duzgaev came to Chechnya just to visit his relatives and to learn about prospects of continuing his professional wrestler's career in Chechnya.
The source asserts that three days before Arthur was declared a "militant", "liquidated" at rendering armed resistance, he had been kidnapped by unknown persons. "He was in his grandmother's house, when he was invited out by someone; then he disappeared," said the source and added that the version of puppet regime in Chechnya looks improbable, as the athlete never had any firearms.
The relative has added that Arthur Dugzaev's body had traces of torture, and that gang members of puppet Kadyrov warned his relatives not to make the event public under threat of punishment. According to his story, similar cases in Chechnya are frequent; and one of the reasons of such incidents is that mobsters of bloody regime are remunerated for every "liquidated militant".
Kidnapping and torture of innocent civilians continue in Chechnya
According to sources in Chechnya, Chechen apostates and gang members of local FSB in Chechnya don't slow down to committing their crimes against innocent civilians in the territory of Ichkeria.
On October 30, a resident of Argun city, born in 1975, was abducted by Russian occupying forces in Chechnya on suspicion of aid to Chechen Mujahideen. According to puppet media, he was assisting to Chechen fighters, providing them house and transport since 2007.
At the same day, the mobsters of bloody Kadyrov regime kidnapped a native of Roshni-Chu village in Urus-Martan district of Chechnya, born in 1988. According to rignleaders of puppet regime, he was supplying food to Chechen Mujahideen.
During October 2009, gang members of apostates abducted to three youngs from Old Sunzha settlement. Viskhan Daudov and Islam Payzulayev were abducted, brutally beaten and later released. On October 31, seven Kadyrovites (gang members of Kadyrov) came with UAZ vehicles, barged in the house of Rizvan Aziyev. They took Rizvan and moved to an unknown destination. The relatives of Rizvan couldn't find any trace about his fate.
According to sources of Ichkeria.info, on 21 October 2009, the members of FSB gang did a mop-up operation in Benoi village of Nozhai Yurt District in Chechnya. Early in the morning, Timur Khadzhimuradov (born in 1986) and Askhab Lepiyev (born in 1988) were abducted from their houses and driven away by militants of FSB.
Askhab Lepiyev was released on October 23. When Askhab came back, his relatives hardly recognized him because he was tortured by terrorist of FSB. Askhab Lepiyev was seriously beaten and tortured with electric shocks during two days. His ribs were broken and he has numerous bruises. He is under medical treatment now.
On the other hand, fate of Timur Khadzhimuradov is unknown. But according to some unconfirmed reports, Timur is still in hands of executioners of FSB in Nozhai Yurt and torturing.
Earlier on October 16, the gang members of FSB were arrested to the imam of village's mosque Visit Magomadov (born in 1977) and his cousin whose name was Adam (born in 1985). They were tortured and humiliated during 4 days under the hostage of FSB. After 4 days, they were released and now both of victims are at hospital in Nozhai-Yurt.
FSB claimed that these people have sympathy to resistance of Chechen nation against occupying Russian forces and might thinking to join it; so it was the reason of abductions and tortures.
Betraying its dictatorial and anti-free speech agenda, the United Nations has blocked two-time New York Times number one bestseller and World Net Daily senior staff writer Jerome Corsi from attending the Copenhagen climate conference next week.
Establishment propaganda organs like the Associated Press, who have dutifully echoed the UN’s hokey science on global warming, in spite of the recent climategate scandal which proved that top academics associated with the UN IPCC manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, have been graciously invited to attend the summit, but any media outlet that has questioned the United Nations’ monopoly on universal truth is not welcome.
Despite the fact that Corsi was previously accredited for coverage at the UN, namely for speeches given by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and George W. Bush, he has been banned from attending next week’s Copenhagen confab.
“Axel Wuestenhagen, media coordinator for the event, admitted in his response that, after two weeks of deliberation on the matter, he consulted with U.N. officials in New York to make a decision about WND’s request,” reports World Net Daily.
A d v e r t i s e m e n t
“Having now reviewed the application and in consultation with the Media and Accreditation Unit in New York, regrettably, we are not in a position to grant accreditation in this instance,” he wrote. “As a for-profit subsidiary of the nonprofit Western Journalism Center, we follow the U.N. guidelines on accreditation which specifies that advocacy publications of nongovernmental or nonprofit organizations do not qualify for media accreditation. Please note that the organization is under no obligation to accept your request if it does not meet U.N. standards and requirements for press accreditation.”
As WND editor Joseph Farah points out, WND has no present affiliation whatsoever with the Western Journalism Center, so the ban has been implemented on a completely false pretext. Despite this, even if WND was affiliated with the Western Journalism Center, what gives the United Nations the right to block media coverage of an event that has global ramifications? This isnt a private function, this is a major summit at which decisions which intimately affect the lives of U.S. citizens will be made by unelected bureaucrats.
Of course, the real reason why Corsi and WND were banned from the event is because they have not prostrated themselves in front of the UN as a servile echo chamber for global warming brainwashing and propaganda, unlike organizations like the Associated Press who have profusely dothed their cap in support of the UN’s ceaseless drive to convince the world that the “debate is over” on global warming, despite the fact that temperatures have been falling for over 10 years.
The Copenhagen event is also being billed as a great leap forward for the implementation of a global government. Since Corsi and World Net Daily have consistently highlighted the anti-democratic nature of the march towards a new world order, their skepticism is obviously something the UN is trying to neutralize.
Top globalists routinely let slip damning statements about the real agenda behind the march towards global governance at these kind of events, yet establishment media outlets habitually fail to report on them. Corsi would have seized upon and reported these sort of statements, which is precisely why the UN has barred him from attending.
This is the model for freedom of the press in the new world order once global institutions completely seize control of national legislative bodies. As is also the case with the European Union, which passed a tyrannical ruling that made it an illegal offense to criticize the EU, dissent in the era of global governance will not be tolerated and those who attempt to exercise freedom of speech in opposing our new rulers will be summarily silenced and gagged.
Recent media reports reveal that the US military continues to carry on torture and illegal detention in Afghanistan at a dungeon known to inmates as "the black prison."
The jail, located on the Bagram Air Base next to the notorious Bagram prison north of Kabul, operates under the executive order of President Obama. After entering office, Obama ordered the closure of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) prison "black sites"—which were in fact no longer active—but exempted those prisons run by the military’s Special Operations, which was headed from 2003 until 2008 by General Stanley McChrystal, now US commander of the Af-Pak theater.
US military officials recently said they had no plans to close the Afghan jail and another like it at the Balad Air Base in Iraq, which they claimed were needed to interrogate "high-value detainees."
Two teenage Afghan boys told the Washington Post that they were beaten, photographed naked, sexually humiliated, denied sleep, and held in solitary confinement by American guards at the prison this year. Interviewed at a juvenile detention center in Kabul, where they have been transferred, "the teenagers presented a detailed, consistent portrait" of the abuse they experienced, the newspaper reported. Their descriptions of the prison were confirmed by two other former prisoners.
In addition to being punched and slapped, Rashid, who the Post describes as "younger than 16," said he was forced to view pornography "alongside a photograph of his mother." He was also forced to strip naked in front of about a half-dozen US soldiers. "They touched me all over my body," he said. "They took pictures, and they were laughing and laughing. They were doing everything."
"That was the hardest time I have ever had in my life," said Rashid, who was arrested this spring. "It was better to just kill me. But they would not kill me. ... I was just crying and crying. I was too young."
On Saturday, the New York Times published interviews with three former inmates who also spoke of the black prison near Bagram. Each informant "was interviewed separately and described similar conditions," the Times notes, and "[t]heir descriptions also matched those obtained by two human rights workers who had interviewed other former detainees at the site." One of the three men was arrested months after Obama’s inauguration as US president, as were the two teenage boys interviewed by the Post.
All of those interviewed by the Times and the Post maintained that they were not "Taliban." Without being charged with a crime, they were seized by US soldiers, then bound, gagged, and hooded, and taken to the "black prison."
The jail, according to the Times’ sources, "consists of individual windowless concrete cells, each illuminated by a single light bulb glowing 24 hours a day." The cells are small; one prisoner said his was only slightly longer than the length of his body. US soldiers throw food into the cells through slots in the door.
Prisoners are exposed to extreme cold and sleep deprivation. The teenage boys told the Post that when they attempted to sleep on the hard floor, US soldiers "shouted at them and hammered on their cells." Prisoners’ only respite from this extreme solitary confinement are twice-a-day interrogations, during which some are beaten or humiliated.
"He kept asking me, 'Tell us the truth.’ I told them the truth more than 10 times," Mohammad told the Post. "That I’m a farmer, my father was a farmer, my brother was a farmer. But they said, 'No, help us with this case. Tell us the truth.’ That’s why he was slapping me."
The prisoners are held in these conditions for weeks—35 to 40 days, according to the Times—their families unaware of their fate. "For my whole family it was disastrous," said Hayatullah, a Kandahar resident who said he was working in his pharmacy when he was arrested. "Because they knew the Americans were sometimes killing people, and they thought they had killed me because for two to three months they didn’t know where I was."
Hamidullah, who was held five and a half months in detention, including five to six weeks in the black jail, said he heard the sounds of other detainees being tortured and abused. "They beat up other people in the black jail, but not me," he said. "But the problem was that they didn’t let me sleep. There was shouting noise so you couldn’t sleep."
Interrogators insisted he was a Taliban fighter named Faida Muhammad. "I said, 'That’s not me,’" he recalled. "They blamed me and said, 'You are making bombs and are a facilitator of bomb making and helping militants,’" he said. "I said, 'I have a shop. I sell spare parts for vehicles, for trucks and cars.’"
The US military permits no contact with the outside world, and in violation of international law, denies the International Committee of the Red Cross access to the secret prison.
Gulham Khan, a 25-year-old sheep trader, who mostly delivers sheep and goats for people who buy the animals in the livestock market in Ghazni, was captured in late October 2008 and released in early September this year. He told the Times, "They kept saying to me, 'Are you Qari Idris?’ I said, 'I’m not Qari Idris.’ But they kept asking me over and over, and I kept saying, 'I’m Gulham. This is my name, that is my father’s name, you can ask the elders.’"
Ten months after his initial detention, American soldiers went to the group cell where he was then being held and told him he had been mistakenly picked up under the wrong name, Khan told the Times. "They said, 'Please accept our apology, and we are sorry that we kept you here for this time.’ And that was it. They kept me for more than 10 months and gave me nothing back."
The Times noted, "In their search for him, Mr. Khan’s family members spent the equivalent of $6,000, a fortune for a sheep dealer, who often makes just a dollar a day. Some of the money was spent on bribes to local Afghan soldiers to get information on where he was being held; they said soldiers took the money and never came back with the information."
"This is something nobody can bear. It’s extraordinary," said Malik Mohammad Hassan, a tribal elder from the Jalalabad area, "They treated us like wild animals."
After Special Operations soldiers have finished interrogating the prisoners, they are transferred to the regular Bagram prison where they are packed into cages holding approximately 20 men each.
Bagram, which reputedly holds an estimated 700 inmates, is a hated symbol of US imperialism to Afghans—so much that the Obama administration has announced its intention to end its use as a prison. Prisoners at Bagram are denied access to legal assistance or the right to know the charges and evidence against them. There have been many reports of torture there, among them at least two cases in which prisoners were brutally beaten to death by US soldiers; one of these cases is memorialized by the documentary Taxi to the Dark Side.
The revelations of torture and illegal detention continuing under Obama give the lie to his claim that the war in Afghanistan is about "protecting the American people" and "fighting terrorism."
Washington aims to subjugate Afghanistan in order to place the US military close to the region’s oil and gas reserves and to head off the growing influence of other powers in the region. It is acutely aware that defeat and withdrawal would spell a drastic weakening of its global position.
These predatory aims require the US military to terrorize and intimidate the entire Afghan population. It is notable that those prisoners interviewed by the Times and the Post were ordinary Afghans—a wood carver, a farmer, a sheep herder, a pharmacist, a retired teacher, and a used parts dealer—all of whom denied any involvement with the Taliban.
Obama’s decision to increase the US military presence in Afghanistan by 30,000 soldiers and escalate the dirty colonial war will inevitably result in more horrors perpetrated against the people of Afghanistan.
The Israeli secret service agency, Shin Bet, responded to a petition in Israel's High Court on Monday, defending their use of torture against detainees.
The petition was filed by the Public Committee Against Torture, a prisoner advocacy group which challenged the Israeli practice of forcing Palestinian detainees to sit on small chairs with their hands cuffed behind the chair during interrogations.
But Shin Bet agents insisted that their methods of interrogating Palestinian detainees are 'humane'. They said that since they increased the length of the chain between the handcuffs to 48 inches, their methods of handcuffing are now humane.
The Israeli secret agency said that the handcuffing of Palestinians during interrogation is necessary in order to 'prevent escape attempts', but gave no examples of such escape attempts actually taking place.
In 1999, the Israeli High Court determined that a number of torture techniques used by Shin Bet, including the 'banana' technique pictured above, were illegal. But Palestinian detainees who have served time in Israeli prison camps in the ten years since that ruling say that many of the banned techniques continue to be used by Shin Bet and other Israeli military agencies.
the president argues that we need to continue the fight with more troops to keep the Taliban down, to prevent Afghanistan from again becoming a center of international terrorism, he’s going to be speaking so much eloquent nonsense.
He will probably not address the recent comment by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the country after Afghanistan itself most victimized by U.S. aggression in the region. Speaking in English Yousef Raza Gilani told reporters:
"Our only concern is that when US sends more troops to Afghanistan’s Helmand area, if there will be influx of militants they will be moving to Balochistan. This is the concern that we already discussed with the US administration, that influx of militants towards Balochistan should be taken care of otherwise that can destabilise Balochistan.
"A stable Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s interest - but at the same time we also do not want our country to be destabilized. We have asked US administration to consult us in case of any paradigm shift in the policy... so that we can formulate our strategy accordingly."
Balochistan is over 40 per cent of the land area of his country. It is beset with ethnic unrest; some of the majority Balochis resent the fact that they receive few profits from the exploitation of the uranium and copper of their region, and are neglected by Islamabad. There is an armed insurgency led by members of the Bugti tribe. This has some support from educated Pakistanis critical of "Pashtun chauvinism" who accuse the state of trying to keep Balochis backward. (While listed as "terrorist" by the State Department this movement is a separate phenomenon from the Taliban.)
State Department officials have dismissed Pakistani concerns. Isn’t that typical though? They have been dismissing them since the initial invasion in 2001, and as Pakistan becomes more and more destabilized, the U.S. merely repeats its demands for more military cooperation, continues its drone strikes across the border, and pursues its goals in the region in what Islamabad perceives as disregard for its interests. Pakistan has its own problems that policy-makers in the U.S. State Department seem either not to understand or to willfully ignore as it exacerbates them.
And President Obama will not mention that according to the Asia Foundation’s 2009 poll in Afghanistan 56 per cent of respondents say they have some sympathy for the motivations of the armed groups, including the Taliban and Hekmatyar’s outfit, opposing occupation. He won’t note how the PR strategy of depicting this effort as a "liberation" symbolized by the removal of the burqa has been long since quietly shelved, since the burqa is actually back with a vengeance and the warlords upon whom the U.S. must rely to maintain order have always laughed at U.S. proposals for social reform. They know that’s not what the troops are there for.
The U.S. intervened indirectly in Afghanistan in the '80s, with no thought for the welfare of the Afghan people and with tragic consequences for them, in order to fight the Soviets and the imagined menace of "communism." To do that it nurtured a ferocious Islamist extremist trend. There’s never been any acknowledgement of error or apology and don’t expect one. It all made sense at the time from a U.S. imperialist point of view.
What makes sense now, from a U.S. imperialist point of view? Just look at the map. Realize that Afghanistan has no products the U.S. corporate world wants or needs. During the Cold War, Iran, Iraq, Turkey sometimes played crucial roles in U.S. geostrategic thinking but Afghanistan was practically conceded to the Soviet camp even before 1978. It only acquired significance as a Cold War battleground when U.S. strategists realized (in Brzezinski’s words) that they could "bleed the Soviets…the way they did us in Vietnam." More recently, it has acquired significance as U.S. energy corporations do global battle with the Russians over access to Caspian Sea natural gas.
At present Europe is dependent on the supply of gas via Russia from the Caspian Sea, principally from Turkmenistan. This gives Moscow enormous political leverage when it comes to such matters as NATO’s decision to admit Georgia or Ukraine. U.S. policy has been to build pipelines from the Caspian avoiding Russia or Iran. Construction of the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) pipeline which will pump the gas straight to the Indian Ocean and on to world markets has been long delayed due to the fighting in Afghanistan.
The pipeline will run through Helmand province, then into Pakistan’s Balochistan. If it all works out, this will represent a highly significant improvement in the geostrategic position of the U.S. in the region, including in the event of another world war (such as might be provoked by a U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities and unpredictable repercussions of such action).
But Obama will not be talking about the history of U.S. intervention in Afghanistan, or the feelings of the Afghan people about occupation, or the reactions of the Pakistanis to the unmitigated disaster on their doorstep, or the real geopolitical reasons for U.S. interest in this backward impoverished Central Asian nation that has been "the graveyard of empires" since the time of Alexander the Great.
He will say it’s still a necessary war to defend Americans from terrorist attack. We should recall, once again, the observation of Nazi war criminal Hermann Goering during the Nuremburg trial that while "naturally the common people don’t want war … the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
We should respond: No it’s not necessary! in the streets that day and those following---until we force Obama to end what are now unmistakably his criminal imperialist wars.

6 Afghan national police killed by fellow officer By RAHIM FAIEZ (AP
November 30, 2009
KABUL — A rogue Afghan police officer opened fire at a checkpoint in southwest Afghanistan, killing six police officers and injuring two before being killed, an official said Monday.
The incident — the second time in two months that a police officer has turned on colleagues — is a reminder of the steep challenge NATO troops face as they work to build a national police force that will be able to provide security and allow international forces to eventually leave.
The shooting in southern Nimroz province occurred Sunday morning in Khash Rod district, said provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Jabar Pardeli.
"One of our policemen opened fire on his colleagues at the checkpoint," Pardeli said, adding that an investigation was under way to find what prompted the shooting.
He said the suspect escaped to Dil Aram — another district in the province — where he was identified by a patrol of Afghan police and army soldiers. The patrol tried to stop him, but he started shooting again and was killed in a gun battle.
President Barack Obama is expected to announce a new Afghan strategy this week that includes tens of thousands more U.S. troops. The leading Senate Democrat on military matters said Sunday that any plan to significantly expand U.S. troop levels must show how those reinforcements will help increase the number of Afghan security forces.
Greater numbers of Afghan army and police are central to succeeding in the 8-year-old war, according to Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and more U.S. trainers and an infusion of battlefield gear will help meet that goal.
But it's unclear, Levin said, what role additional U.S. combat troops will play in that buildup, and Obama has to make a compelling case during a national address he's scheduled to give Tuesday night from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.
NATO's goal is to grow the largely uneducated police force into a professional force of about 134,000 officers by October 2010 from 94,000 today. But finding skilled recruits is difficult, and some of those joining the police now were recently on the side of the militants.
The push has been marked by violence. In October, a police officer opened fire on the British troops training him, killing five. Last year, police officers turned against American soldiers in two separate incidents, killing and wounding several.
In the same area as the latest shooting, a Turkish engineer for a private construction company has been missing since Sunday, when he drove out toward Dil Aram, Gov. Ghulam Dastagir Azad said.
In the north, meanwhile, two gunmen on a motorbike shot and killed the head of logistics for the provincial intelligence service late Sunday, said Jowzjan provincial police chief Khalilullah Aminzada.
And in southern Helmand province, Afghan and international forces killed two militants responsible for planting roadside bombs, the Defense Ministry said.
